the song lyrics are literally;
silent night
broken night
all is fallen when you take your flight

Janelle’s crash course video-montage tips;
- a fade to black signifies the end of something. using this as a transition, or all over in your video, will make it feel very disjointed, instead of as one piece. if you want to break up parts of it, cool. but as a general transition, it’s not affective. use it sparingly.
- don’t have your camera shot change two seconds into a clip, it’s disconcerting. heck, if I had it my way, only one camera shot would be used in each clip, but I’m not the ruler of all editors. so, just be aware of where the shot change is, and try to place it somewhere where it isn’t in the middle of a transition.
- make use of the song. does it have a cool beat? play with the beat. are the lyrics nice and slow? maybe have the clips change with it. don’t just use it as a backdrop to the video without any audio clips/overlays. it gets really boring really fast, and you want your viewer to be engaged.
- notice a character’s talking in a clip? not including the audio? don’t use the clip. this is my biggest pet peeve, because it’s so distracting. suddenly your viewer is trying to figure out what the hell the character said, or remembering because they’re a superfan. all attention is lost.
- using audio overlays? make sure they can be heard. a good test for this is to take off your headphones, and play the whole video with only your speakers. if you can’t make out what is being said, you need to boost the volume. or add subtitles. or move where the audio is. or take away the excessive, delayed echo, you know, if you’re into that sort of strange artistic field.
- it’s okay to make an homage to another editor’s work, but don’t forget to always bring your own creativity to the table! this is your work. this has your name on it. be proud of it.
- and never be afraid to literally watch it 8 million times before rendering. even if you think it’s perfect, you’ll be able to find a mistake later; I guarantee it.
making a video
you know it’s gonna be good when you’ve only done the titles and you can’t stop watching it because you already love it so much

Count on Me - Callie and Arizona
I want to do a really peppy, happy, joyous Grey’s Anatomy ensemble video. Like, ridiculous upbeat and fun. My three song options thus far are;
- Jump on My Shoulders - Awolnation
- People - Awolnation
- Just a Minute - Rongedal
- We are Golden - Mika
- Kick Ass (We Are Young) - Mika vs. RedOne
Pick one? Or suggest something else?
